RF Editor, Graphical RF Signal Editor
Manipulate I & Q signal files using the same drag and drop methods found in music or video editing software applications.

RF Editor, Graphical RF Signal Editor
Part #: WC-RF-EDITOR
X-COM Systems, RF Editor is a graphical signal editing tool that allows the user to manipulate I & Q signal files using the same drag and drop methods found in music or video editing software applications. It is a valuable, time saving tool to create and test scenarios that can quickly identify communication systems and equipment vulnerabilities, quantify performance against specifications or emulate unwanted users of bandwidth resources. RF Editor is part of the X-COM suite of RF software tools that compliment X-COM's industry–leading, long duration, seamless RF record and playback products. RF Editor is an invaluable aid for modifying and building waveforms in the time and frequency domains.
Features
-
Time saving, visual time domain placement and alignment of signals or spectrum using a drag and drop user interface.
-
Quickly build signal libraries using menu-driven filters, decimation and interpolation, and frequency-shifting functions.
-
With a single mouse click, add, repeat or combine modified signals to create and save versions that can quickly identify, highlight and isolate subtle and transient signals that would otherwise be lost with only real-time tools and equipment.
-
Use captured spectrum from the IQC-2110 and MATLAB® software.
(MATLAB® is a registered trademark of the MathWorks® Corporation.)
-
Export created signals for further analysis in Spectro-X or for error-free, high fidelity re-transmission using the X-COM CPG-2110.

Applications
-
Electronic Warfare - Visualize and post process broad segments of the battlefield spectrum to design robust communications networks.
-
Wireless Comminications - Capture, identify and play back waveforms or create new ones fundamental to the testing and development of satellite and terrestrial, voice, data and telemetry equipment and networks.
-
Spectrum Management - Monitor spectrum usage and supplement the use of spectrum snapshots and tedious power surveys with long duration, geo-tagged, time-stamped spectral recordings.
-
Radar - Capture wide bandwidths over extended time periods to analyze radar effectiveness. Create and test new waveforms to improve performance.
-
Survelliance - Determine usage patterns, intercept transmissions and correlate data files to receiver locations for military, drug interdiction and homeland security applications.

-
Interpolation/Decimation: User specified span change; integer ratio required between initial and final spans
-
Frequency Shifting: Replication and offset from original frequency by user specified amount (1Hz resolution)
-
Signal Duration: User can lengthen time duration of sample file; single sample time resolution
-
Signal Level Attenuation/Gain: Scalar multiplier on I & Q magnitudes. If resultant magnitude > 32,767, all sample files are scaled by fixed amount to maintain relative levels. Then, multiplier is applied to selected file.

Waveform Time Segment Creation
Any XIQ file is available to the RF Editor user. Those files can then be dragged on to any of the 10 time tracks. Waveform segment duration can be extended by right clicking the waveform on its track and modifying its end time. By frequency shifting waveforms, RF Editor allows the user to rapidly build complex new spectrum in the time domain and stack carriers in the frequency domain simultaneously. When the segments are aligned as desired on the time tracks, the BUILD menu lets the user produce the new, fully combined waveform with one mouse click. It is then immediately available as another library entry in the left side file list. |
Band Pass and Band Stop Filters
Origional |
Filtered |
Apply band pass filters to waveform segments from the file list with a 3dB pass band that is specified as a menu selected percentage of the capture BW of the file containing the signal. If the file was captured by the IQC-2110, the capture BW equals the span setting of the spectrum analyzer used as the RF front end. RF Editor allows the signal span, and therefore the filter BW to be reduced by a simple, dialog box decimation operation. |
Frequency Shifting
Origional |
Shifted |
Spectrum can be replicated and offset from the original by a user specified amount of frequency within the span of the signal file.
Power Level Adjustment
Origional |
Attenuated |
Power levels of each signal can be adjusted with better than a 0.1dB resolution. |
Advanced Editing
RF Editor function windows such as Band Pass Filter, Band Stop Filter, Frequency Shifting or Span adjustment provide pre-set options that meet a majority of editing needs and require a minimum of key or mouse strokes during the editing process. RF Editor also meets the need for higher precision editing through its Advanced Modify window. Multiple simultaneous operations can be performed, the new file saved and immediately available for addition to an RF Editor waveform time track. Within the Advanced Modify window an operator can frequency shift in Hz resolution, decimate a sampled file by any integer value, apply a filter with a bandwidth as low as 10% of the decimated signal span and interpolate a new span to adjust occupied bandwidth. |
Integration with Spectro-X
RF Editor is integrated with Spectro-X. This allows the user to highlight any waveform in the RF Editor File list and, with a single mouse click, have that entire file, or a portion of it, immediately available for viewing, carrier and waveform searches in Spectro-X. |
